JOHN ASHTON G4NTS - SILENT KEY

John, G4NTS died at the age of 58 at his home in Newton Abbot, Devon on 15th August 2003. He had been suffering from a long illness, but died suddenly.

John was always available to help in any technical matters to do with ATV and assisted in the setting up of many stations. He and other amateurs assisted Raynet on exercises with video links on 24cm.
He was the founder member of the Weymouth 24cm ATV fast scan group. He spent a great deal of time constructing and operating ATV equipment from his home in Wyke Regis including the ATV Repeater GB3WV, which was also sited at my home QTH in Wyke Regis for a while. When he and his XYL Sue moved to Newton Abbot, the repeater went with him and was re-sited on Dartmoor.

John, who had a wicked Northern wit, was a close and great friend of mine and is very much missed.

John's cremation service was attended by friends, family and many amateurs from his local area, myself and Chris, G1BJN. A member of the local amateur radio group read out a dedication to John's efforts with the ATV repeater.

Les, G0FAJ
