SILENT KEY - TED HALL - G3ETA

Ted died on the 9th of January 2001 aged 81. He was the founder of the Weymouth screen printing company DEK.

After a distinguished military career in WW2 he returned to the UK where he attended the London School of Printing and after graduation he joined his stepfathers printing business in London. His interest in screen printing was fuelled by the need to print radio tuning scales directly on to the glass panels rather than on backing paper. The machine building business eventually supplied such household names as Pye and Murphy.

He moved to Dorset in the early sixties and started to farm at Waddock Cross, Tincleton. He then started DEK in Weymouth where he developed a new type of precision screen printing machine which was supplied to industry and later the electronics market all over the world.

Ted lectured the South Dorset Radio Society on a number of occasions about his WW2 and screen printing experiences. He recently provided the material for the publication by the SDRS of 'The Suitcase Set', the fascinating story of his radio operation behind enemy lines during WW2 with the SOE.
