THE CATSWHISKER

Our Societies Newsletter has been called 'The Catswhisker' since it's inception. The word is defined thus in the Oxford Concise Dictionary.

cat's whisker n.
a fine adjustable wire in a crystal radio receiver.
the cat's whiskers (or pyjamas) slang an excellent person or thing.

PROBLEMS DOWNLOADING - PLEASE READ THIS!

A few members have reported problems with reading large Catswhisker PDF files, particularly those over 500KB. If you are using a 56K (or less) connection we recommend that you right click with your mouse on the link and chose the option 'save target as'. The file can then be saved to a convenient folder of your choice. Once the download has finished you can disconnect from the Internet, run the Adobe Acrobat Reader program from the Windows Start Menu and open the file. Alternatively if you have saved the file to your Desktop (or wherever) just click (or double click) the file to automatically open Acrobat Reader and the Catswhisker!.

Please also note that the Acrobat Reader program will sometimes open up a small window asking if you want to check for program updates via the Internet and will wait until you respond before proceeding with the download. You MUST respond, if you don't, everything will stop! This might also explain the occasional reports we have had of the program 'crashing' or failing to download the Newsletter.

Assuming that you are using a 56K modem and have a decent Internet connection the above file should only take a few minutes to download before you can read it - please be patient! If you have a 'broadband' connection then it should be at least 10 times faster of course.
